Lordship Salvation Is 100% Biblical

Time for a little more tough love today following the last study that explored the 'Jesus isn't Lord' apostasy/heresy that's been around for years, but that's gaining strength during these end times.

Last night, I came across these two short videos that make an irrefutable Biblical case for what's called 'Lordship Salvation'. Yes, I'm afraid that those two dirty little words paired together, that dreaded concept, actually goes hand-in-hand with the content from the previous post, which is why I want to share this with you now.

However, let me preface this by defining 'Lordship Salvation', and by pointing out what it is and what it isn't because that's where a lot of the confusion comes into play here.

Simply put, it's based on Romans 10:9-10. Lordship Salvation is not the belief that we are to be 'perfect' by our own doing. It's not a 'Works-Based Theology' at all. That's un-Biblical. When we are "born again" (John 3:3), we are born again as sons and daughters of God. As new creations we desire not to sin, but, unfortunately, we must also live with our old selves, the fallen flesh, or the part of us that thrives on sinning; the old man of the flesh (Romans 7:19-20).

So, a born again man or woman will still sin, but the key here is that they don't desire to sin. Now, if one is truly born again then more often than not, they, because of the power of the Jesus Christ, shall be able to overcome sin more and more as time goes by.

However, if a person claims to be born again, but then acts like they have the right to continue sinning voluntarily, then there's something seriously wrong. In fact, one might wonder if the person is truly saved at all, because they don't act the part (Romans 6:5-8).

Let me try to some it up this way...

His point was, and my point is, that from the time of our first saving acceptance of Christ, he is our King and Lord and Savior and Priest and Prophet and Counselor. All that he is, he is for those who are his. And then begins a life of faltering and growing yieldedness to Christ in all that he is. his can come in the form of decisive crises, or in the form of gradually growing commitment, or in the form of daily surrenderings. The lordship of Christ, in reality, is something that is not discovered and yielded to once, but thousands of times. It is yieldedness to his lordship that is at stake every time we are tempted to sin—every day.

So I reckon it is possible that many people “have Jesus as their Lord” who don’t think much about that term (as evidently you didn’t for ten years after your conversion). If you were not dealing with Christ as one who authoritatively calls for newness of life, you would probably have been changed very little. But your testimony is that Christ “had a powerful influence” on your life in those early days. I believe you were dealing with him as your Lord even though that may not have been a title you fully understood. I’m sure I didn’t in my earliest days as a believer.

In fact none of us yet understands the full implications of the lordship of Christ on our lives. I am struggling every day to know what the Lord is requiring of me in specific choices among good options. I am learning every day the extent of his lordly control of the world and his mysterious ways of fulfilling his promises as Lord of my life and my church. Submitting to the lordship of Christ is a lifelong activity. It must be renewed every day in many acts of trust and obedience. Submission to Christ’s lordship is not merely a once-for-all experience.

I say “not merely” because in a sense it is a once for all experience. I believe this is conversion. And if I understand the main difference between us it is right here. You seem to say that a person can be converted and saved even if they reject the claim of Jesus to be their Lord. I may be wrong here. But that seems to be the implication of what you are saying. For if you are only saying that a person can be saved and not know fully the implications of Christ’s lordship, then we have no argument on this point.

But your response goes further than that, I think, and says that people “do not have Christ as Lord” and yet are saved. I take the phrase, “do not have Christ as Lord,” to mean “reject his lordship.” Otherwise you would only be saying that all saved people own Jesus as Lord of their lives but live out that submission in greater or lesser degrees of consistency. But that is what I am saying. There would be no dispute.

So I take it that you are saying something much more extreme, namely, that people can actually be presented with the claims of Christ as Lord and say, “No, I don’t want to bow to him as Lord, and I do not accept his claim on my life as authoritative Guide and Teacher,” but still be saved (if they believe that he died for them!). If that is what you are saying, then there is a great difference between us indeed. And not only between you and me, but between you and centuries of Christian orthodoxy.

The Bible makes it plain, I believe, that people who persistently refuse the command of Jesus’ lordship have no warrant for believing that they are saved. Such people should not be comforted that they are saved simply because there was a time when they “believed” gospel facts or walked an aisle or signed a card or prayed a prayer. In fact, Jesus seems far more eager to explode the assurance of false “professions of faith” than he is to give assurance to people who are intent on living in sin. Where does he ever bolster the “eternal security” of a person unwilling to forsake sin?

I am not saying that only perfect people are saved. There are no perfect people on this earth. We sin every day and every good work we do is tainted with sinful remnants of corruption. I am saying that a person who goes on willfully rejecting the commands of Jesus for his life has no warrant for salvation.

That was from an exchange involving John Piper who is no stranger to this debate.

Bottom line, Christ is Lord whether we acknowledge that or not (Acts 2:36; Philippians 2:11). And it is misleading because he is the Lord of every true believer whether we grasp this fully or obey him fully or not.

To those videos to help bolster this truth...

Romans 10:9 - Lordship Salvation (Part 1)

Romans 10:10 - Lordship Salvation (Part 2)

Yep, I'd say that Romans 10:9 is pretty definitive, but people always want to twist that and rip it out of context by suggesting that it promotes some kind of satanic 'Works-Based Theology', which is absurd.

My dear friends, that verse is not talking about some simple acknowledgment that He is God and the Lord of the universe, since even demons acknowledge that to be true (James 2:19).

This is the deep, personal conviction -- without reservation -- that Jesus is that person's own master of sovereign, and we are His property, or His slaves.

This phrase includes repenting from sin, trusting in Jesus for salvation, and submitting to Him as Lord. This is the volitional element of faith.

As for Romans 10:10, the Greek word for "confession" basically means to say the same thing, or to be in agreement with someone. The person who confesses Jesus as Lord (verse 9), agrees with the Father's declaration that Jesus is Savior and Lord.

In other words, Lordship Salvation is 100% Biblical.

'Lordship Salvation' equals salvation.

Apostasy? 'Jesus Isn't Lord'

It's been awhile since we last produced a post for this important series. Better late than never I suppose!

I believe it was Charles H. Spurgeon who brilliantly once said...

"Discernment is not knowing the difference between right and wrong. It is knowing the difference between right and almost right."

The Christian faith is under attack from within. Another sign of the times for sure.

This 'Apostasy?' series is dedicated to defending the truth and contending for the faith against the wolves that have hidden themselves within the flock, to encouraging those who claim to be Christians to begin living a life consistent with Biblical Christianity (or change their name), to uplifting those dear brothers and sisters who have been burdened by the weight of a false gospel, and to exalting Jesus Christ because all the glory, honor, and praise is His and His alone. It's all in the spirit of Galatians 2:5 because of Galatians 1:10.

I pray that this series will bring together a community of believers from around the world who are passionate about doing the same things as I am. I pray that the content of this series is used within the Body of Christ to generate further Bible study and discussions with loved ones regarding our cherished faith.

Well, it's time to bring out the 'big guns' today, which is to say that I'm going to refrain from speculative and subjective sign-spotting exercises (those 'Symbolism Studies') and stand on nothing but 100%, irrefutable truth instead.

If you have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about (or if this is your first time reading a study that's part of LUF's 'Apostasy?' series), then please don't go any further until you read the SERIES INTRODUCTORY DISCLAIMER
first. Actually, on second thought, don't continue reading any further -- and certainly don't even think about commenting in response to this Bible study -- until you've had a chance to read that.

If, by some chance, you're still confused about the intent here, then please follow-up that disclaimer up by reading
'Sound Doctrine Rejected In These Last Days' by Alan Yukso who builds an airtight argument around the following verses...

2 Timothy 4:3-4 (KJV) For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away [their] ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

Titus 1:16 (KJV) They profess that they know God; but in works they deny [him], being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

2 Thessalonians 2:3 (KJV) Let no man deceive you by any means: for [that day shall not come], except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

John 3:16-21 (KJV) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

Jude 1:11-13 (KJV) Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core. These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds [they are] without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.

Jude 1:16-18 (KJV) These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling [words], having men's persons in admiration because of advantage. But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.

1 John 2:18-19 (KJV) Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time. They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would [no doubt] have continued with us: but [they went out], that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.

2 Corinthians 11:13-15 (KJV) For such [are] false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore [it is] no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

Joshua 24:15 (KJV) And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that [were] on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

It all boils down to a separation between the "wheat" and "tares", the "sheep" and "goats" in this world. In other words, there are the "committed Christians" and those who are "Christian-In-Name-Only" too. Which side are you on? How can you know?

It's a very important question and Yusko points out the reasons why...

There is another separation happening right now before the return of the Lord to rapture home His people. The false Christian tares are being exposed. People are choosing sides and aligning themselves with the tares/goats or the wheat/sheep. The false Christian tare is getting real easy to see as they love the same things that Satan loves. They have no heart for sound Biblical doctrine or obedience to the Word of God. Tares/Goats react violently to sound Biblical doctrine as they have no heart for it. They are unteachable and have no desire for a close walk with the Lord.

Sadly, I have seen many people who have aligned themselves in the TARE and GOAT camp while calling themselves Christian. Do they listen to sound Biblical doctrine? No. Do they have a teachable heart and respond in obedience to the Word of God? No. Do they respond to Biblical correction? Yes they do (but in the wrong way - and that way is negative!). The tare responds with rejection, rebellion, and mockery. Just talk to a professing Christian who is addicted to Satan's rock music to see what I mean. Are these people saved? Well, if they stay aligned with the tares/goats in their rebellion then that is an indication they never knew the Lord.

Not that He needs any of my help, but I pray that this series is used by God to deal with defending the Christian faith from a virtual cornucopia of heresy, damnable lies, cults, false teaching and the lukewarm status quo which is running rampant throughout most American churches today. No, not all, but far too many.

I pray that this series is used by God to deal with exposing all the things about our shared faith that so many of us believe are true (so many things that even I had believed were true), but in our (my) spiritual immaturity, we don't (I didn't) realize that they are actually false.

For example, previous entries in this 'Apostasy?' series include...

Apostasy? Sola Scriptura

Apostasy? 'We Are Angels'

Like I said, I've neglected to keep it consistent. Sorry about that, folks.

Now, I hope you will join me in this pursuit of the only truth that matters -- Biblical truth found in His Word as opposed to any perceived 'truth' found in this world.

I hope that you will continue reading the rest of this study today with your Bible wide open and an open line of communication via prayer firmly established with the Lord above.

As always, never take my word for anything! Instead, test everything (1 Thessalonians 5:21), be like the Bereans were and apply Acts 17:11, and take all things under prayerful consideration before making any final conclusions.

I also hope it goes without saying that I encourage you to share your comments afterward if you feel moved to. Just be sure to follow the simple guidelines listed in the Comments Section.

APOSTASY? 'JESUS ISN'T LORD'

Before we begin, and despite the previous 'disclaimers' in the above introduction, I want to set the proper tone. This is mostly for me, but also for you the reader so that you will know from the outset that I take these kinds of studies
very seriously.

Galatians 1:8-9 (KJV) But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any [man] preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

These Bible studies will always be written in the form of a question in order to get us to examine the Biblical evidence and then use that evidence to make a conclusion as to whether or not contemporary Christianity's current stance on this subject is a direct fulfillment of the prophesied apostasy or not.

On the agenda today? The contemporary belief that Jesus IS NOT Lord, that He was somehow just a good man, or a great philosopher. Now, you might be thinking to yourself, "Jeff, I thought this was an analysis of what contemporary Christianity believe -- not what the lost, unbelieving world believes." It is! That's the worst part.

Believe it or not, I just discovered that there's a whole segment of contemporary Christianity that seeks to undermine one of the key fundamentals of the Christian faith, which is the fact that Jesus Christ is Lord. Have you ever heard of anything more absurd? I mean, how can you call yourself a 'Christian' when you choose to ignore a ton of Scripture that proves this to be the case?

So, is it true then that Jesus isn't Lord? The short answer? No. No, of course it's not true. In fact, this is probably more akin to heresy than apostasy, but we've come this far so let's keep going.

Ok, but where does such an idea stem from then? I think it all stems from this heresy that sounds like this: "Make Jesus your Lord today!" You've heard this at some point in your life, haven't you? Sure, we all have. Well, apparently, this movement within Christianity believes that a person can be saved even if they do not confess Jesus Christ as Lord.

Guess what? Truth is, it is absolutely necessary for a person who is saved to confess Jesus Christ as Lord. If one desires to be saved, then confessing Christ as Lord is a necessary requirement (Romans 10:9-10).

I had no idea that this is something that's been around since the late 1980s. The sad thing is that it's still around to this day, infecting the hearts and minds of who knows how many people.

I wonder if it's this very belief in a false gospel that is at the core of the false converts within the Body of Christ today. After all, those who subscribe to this ridiculous notion cling to a view that it’s enough to accept Jesus as Savior, to take your forgiveness, to take your guarantee of Heaven, but then you can live any way you want until you come to some crisis point, and that's when you finally decide to make Christ Lord of your life. What sheer arrogance! What sheer madness!

To paraphrase John MacArthur, they treat salvation like it's some 'momentary transaction' that secures forever, but doesn’t necessarily transform your life and certainly does not involve acknowledging Jesus as Lord of your life and submitting your life to Him. How tragic indeed.

The more I think of it, yes, it's gotta be this apostasy/heresy that is at the root of the epidemic of false converts and false preachers and teachers today. Think about it. We almost always hear things like, "Accept Christ...receive Christ...make a decision for Christ...", when we should be hearing things like, "Are you willing to commit your life to following Jesus?", or "Are you willing to repent of your sin and bow your knee in submission to the Lordship of Christ?", or "Are you willing to allow Jesus Christ to take over as King and ruler of your life?" instead.

Remember, it's not enough to simply believe. The devils believe and tremble (James 2:19). Jesus Christ is the Lord! Just in case you think this Bible study is 'light' on the actual 'Bible study' portion, then I would strongly encourage you to spend some time with the following series. No need for me to be redundant.

Jesus IS Lord in the Gospels

Jesus IS Lord in Acts

Jesus IS Lord in Romans

Jesus IS Lord in 1 Corinthians

Jesus IS Lord in 2 Corinthians and Galatians

Jesus IS Lord in Ephesians and Philippians

Folks, there are over 700+ references to Jesus being LORD in the New Testament alone! So, the person who confesses Jesus as Lord (Romans 10:9), agrees with the Father's declaration that Jesus Christ is both Savior and Lord.

As with previous entries in this series, the subject needs to be studied in relation to the TOTALITY of Scripture. I can't say that enough, and it can't be overstated, because that's what led to this confusion and this 'new revelation' in the first place.

The sad reality? Apostates and False Converts infest the Body of Christ today, and they will stand in the way of anybody who wants to preach the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. This is a clear and present danger to the church because it's inside the church; it's the cancer within, and it eats away little by little, and we don’t recognize it.

Or, when we do recognize it, we don’t do anything about it. Why? Because we’re afraid that people will be offended. We’re afraid that people will call us 'fundamentalists', 'narrow-minded', 'Pharisees', who are 'judging' and/or 'misinterpreting' things.

We ask them to show us our error using the Word of God and we get a muted response. If we do get a response, then it often devolves into character assassination and name-calling. Our dear fellow brothers and sisters in Christ (who we're only bringing up the 'controversial' subjects with because we truly care about their spiritual health) have learned much from the secular, non-believing world and think nothing of using its vile tactics against one of their own.

Worse, when that possibility doesn't stop us from speaking out, we cower and succumb to fear sent by Satan and his minions because we worry we'll somehow do damage to our testimony, witness, and even the Gospel of Christ. We are so careful to preserve the wolves, and yet so slow to defend the faith, and that's a real shame.

There's something that Michael Fink wrote that I think is appropriate here...

Apostasy is certainly a biblical concept, but the implications of the teaching have been hotly debated. The debate has centered on the issue of apostasy and salvation. Based on the concept of Gods sovereign grace, some hold that, though true believers may stray, they will never totally fall away. Others affirm that any who fall away were never really saved. Though they may have "believed" for a while, they never experienced regeneration.

Since truth is contrary to the natural man, we tend to reject these doctrines. That's why a daily reading of His Word is so essential.

The apostasy is Biblical. False Converts are Biblical. The Sovereignty of God is Biblical. The Lord being a Creator is Biblical. 'Jesus is Lord' is Biblical. You accept and believe that, right?

More importantly, the Word does not contradict itself and we're supposed to use the Bible to interpret the Bible. I know it. You know it. So, somewhere, somehow, this issue is fully explained and reconciled for us who are believers in genuine pursuit of the truth. If there seems to be any 'disconnect' in the Scriptures, then it's only because we haven't studied them enough to know why it appears that way.

At the same time, it might also be argued that where we fall short in the understanding that is imparted to us at this time is precisely the point where we need to rely on faith and continue to seek Him for the answers we desire, but only if such answers will make us desire more fellowship with Him.

Well, it's either that, or it's all because we're simply being rebellious and sinful, preferring our way over God's way at each and every turn. Such a path only leads to destruction. my friend (Romans 6:23). You need to repent and recognize that Jesus is already Lord. You don't get to decide when He is Lord and when He isn't.

I think that's a fitting place to end today's 'debate' that could be related to the prophesied apostasy given the truth about such a popular topic these days.

To reiterate, my intention with a study like this is not to cause chaos or division amongst the brethren. Gosh no! My sole intention is to generate a 'debate' (a sober discussion really) that will motivate us to search the Scriptures like Bereans in pursuit of the truth, to spend more time fellowshipping with one another, to spend more time reading and studying His Word, and to spend more time in prayer praising and worshipping our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

I pray that any discussion that follows this message will be constructive, edifying, and informative so long as it glorifies God while prompting us to prayerfully consider a serious subject like this.

Sometimes an evocative subject like this forces us to reflect upon our heart intent and "examine yourselves" (2 Corinthians 13:5), which is, according to Scripture, spiritually healthy, commendable, and commanded.

Thank you for your willingness to join me in pursuit of the truth no matter how uncomfortable it might be, and no matter where it might take us.

As long as we end up on our knees praising, repenting, and worshipping at the feet of Jesus and His finished work on the cross each and every time, then that's always a journey worth taking in my book.

God bless you and yours! Keep looking up!

Heaven Has Gained One More Saint Today...

David Flynn passed away today.

"In reality, everything that is truly precious to us as Christians is in heaven. The Father is there (Matt. 6:9). Jesus Himself is at the Father’s right hand (Heb. 9:24). Many brothers and sisters in Christ are there, too (Heb. 12:23). Our names are recorded there (Luke 10:20). This is our inheritance (1 Pet. 1:4). Our citizenship is in heaven (Phil. 3:20). Our eternal reward is in heaven (Matt. 5:12). In other words, everything we should love everlastingly, everything we rightly value, everything of any eternal worth is in heaven.

Scripture repeatedly makes clear that heaven is a realm of unsurpassed joy, unfading glory, undiminished bliss, unlimited delights, and unending pleasures. Nothing about it can possibly be boring or humdrum. It will be a perfect existence. We will have unbroken fellowship with all heaven’s inhabitants. Life there will be devoid of any sorrows, cares, tear, fears, or pain.

Scripture promises that heaven will be a realm of perfect bliss. Tears, pain, sorrow, and crying will have no place whatsoever in the New Heaven and New Earth. It is a place where God’s people will dwell together with Him eternally, utterly free from all the effects of sin and evil. God is pictured as personally wiping away the tears from the eyes of the redeemed. Heaven is a realm where death is fully conquered (1 Cor. 15:26). There is no sickness there, no hunger, no trouble, and no tragedy. Just absolute joy and blessings. It is frankly hard for our minds, which have never known anything but this sinful life and its calamities, to imagine.

Far from being stuffy and uncomfortable, our worship in heaven will bring us sheer pleasure. It will be unhindered enjoyment of God, unadulterated by any taint of guilt or any fear of insecurity. None of our earthly pleasures can compare with the perfect delight we will derive from heavenly worship. All the joys we derive from earthly love, earthly beauty, and other earthly blessings are nothing in comparison to the pure bliss of heavenly worship before the very face of Him from whom all true blessings flow. Only those who know Him can even begin to appreciate the unadulterated pleasure this will be.

-- John MacArthur

Our prayers go out to his family and friends. Lord, please comfort them with the truth of your Word during this time of great loss.

I never had the pleasure of meeting him (or even speaking to him), but his work as a watchman for the Lord definitely had an impact on me.

"Well done, good and faithful servant..." (Matthew 25:23).

Chronicling The End Times

More from Hollywood again.

Another movie soon to be released called Chronicle opens February 3rd and it seeks to add more to the 'Prepare-For-The-Rise-Of-The-Antichrist' meme we've been following.

Specifically, it ties in with the whole "signs and lying wonders" warnings in Scripture that are associated with him.

2 Thessalonians 2:9 (ESV) The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders,

Revelation 13:13-14 (KJV) And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.

As mentioned, the film is called Chronicle and the trailer will emphasize all the reasons why this caught my eye recently.

But even the two prominent movie posters being used right now to promote the film both resonate with prophetic imagery. The first calls to mind the Rapture and the second ties in with the Antichrist themes.

It just never ends.
