For months or maybe longer, we've speculated about whether or not the Bush administration would engage Iran militarily before their time was up. Now, with Israel's Ehud Olmert set to leave the political stage as well it would seem rather unlikely.
Yet, while this type of headline isn't anything new and these recent political circumstances make this type of event unlikely in the near future, it still feels like we're only seconds away from a major military conflict in the Middle East. Why is that? The answer must be that it's because these events are supernatural in origin and that they were written before their time - not just in the pages of the Bible, but in our DNA as spiritual beings created by God - so that we would respond to His call to get our attention that time is short.
Who would argue that a conflict instantly involving the U.S., Israel, Iran, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and perhaps even Russia and China (those responsible for arming the nations who want to see Israel's destruction) could erupt at any moment in that unstable and volatile piece of God's real estate?
Therefore, it's not simply a matter of "if," but a matter of "when" these things will happen.
So, for now, this headline will get classified as just another example of "wars and rumors of wars" from Mark 13:7-8 or more evidence that we should look up for the time is near.
