What's Going On With The Planet?

What's going on with the planet? The last few days have produced some of the worst natural disasters that we've seen this year and the extent of the damage including the threat of what's left to come still remains to be seen.

These devastating events aren't reserved for one part of the world either since they've taken place in many different parts of the world.

INDIA

First, it was about 2 weeks ago that India and other South Asian countries had to deal with the effects of monsoon floods. The monsoon caused the Kosi River to overflow its banks, which caused estimates of the number of dead ranging from scores to thousands and left 700,000 people trapped with little or no food. Flooding in Bangladesh cut off at least 20,000 people. Thankfully, Indian officials have commandeered private watercraft after they found that private boat owners were charging people up to $150 each for a life-saving ride - an impossibly large amount for those caught in the impoverished villages that were affected.

CHINA

A 6.1 earthquake struck Sichuan province Saturday along the same fault line as the May 12th earthquake that killed nearly 70,000 people.

UNITED STATES

At the time of this writing, Hurricane Gustav was set to reach land along the Gulf Coast of the Untied States (state of Louisiana) as a Category 3 storm. While this is a bit of a "relief" since many predicted a Category 5, a 3 is still an awful system to deal with. Aside from the human element (measured in loss of life, homes, communities), the nation is also holding its breath since several oil refineries and production rigs including billions of dollars at stake in other wide-ranging economic sectors could damage an already volatile U.S. economy.

So, what does it all mean prophetically? Personally, I think the key is the intensity and the frequency of such events which should both increase - like birth labor pains - as we get closer and closer to the end.

But don't take my word for it. Study what the Bible and Jesus Christ Himself had to say about such things.

The most intriguing aspect to all of this?

On August 25th it was reported that U.S. Secretary of State Condi Rice has been pushing Israel to split Jerusalem into 2 parts to satisfy the Palestinians and the world. In other words, she has been pushing to divide God's holy land. And we all know what God has to say about that.

When did Tropical Strom Gustav (now a Hurricane) form in the Carribean? Surprise, surprise! It was also on August 25th!

Actually, that was a tongue-in-cheek response because I'm not really surprised by that at all. Now, I must admit that it's not clear if an official representative of the U.S. actually spoke such words publicly on the 25th or if the mainstream media simply published a report on that day indicating previous attempts to do so, but either way I still find it interesting that a Category 3 Hurricane that is set to inflict more death and destruction on a part of the U.S. came into being ON THE SAME DAY as a high-ranking U.S. government official calls for dividing God's holy land.

More food for thought.
