What will be Obama's first major decision that will leave a long-lasting impression upon this nation? What will be the very first change he'll make to our way of life as we know it today?
I have it feeling that it will be our First Amendment that will be the first to go.
I've documented the Left's desire to reinstate the so-called Fairness Doctrine on more than one occasion, but then it was just talk. Well, today it seems that talk is quickly gaining support as we have an inside look into one of Obama's potential appointees.
Today, on Your World with Neil Cavuto on the Fox News Channel the discussion focused on radical leftist Henry Rivera, President-elect Barack Obama's appointee to oversee the Administration's Federal Communications Commission (FCC) transition process, and its implications for the future of free speech in America.
Here's a frightening scenario that I wasn't aware of until today - no Congressional action is required to bring back the Fairness Doctrine. All the Obama Administration has to do is make one appointment to the FCC, turning a 3-2 Republican FCC majority into a 3-2 Democratic one, and it can again be reinstated. Republican Robert McDowell's term ends in June 2009.
Friends, this has serious implications for us. Imagine a world where debate and discussion on a particular issue is regulated by the federal government; a world where Christians are forbidden from talking about things that are presented in the Holy Bible because it "offends" someone. At the very least, we'll have to give "equal time" to the competing viewpoint. It's a world where I cannot write about my opposition to homosexuality or abortion on this website unless I agree to give the GLBT and Planned Parenthood space to express their position as well.
I've said it once and I'll say it again, I truly believe that one of the most common phrases we'll hear from Obama supporters during the next 4 years will be along the lines of, "Oh my! I didn't think he would actually consider doing something like that!"
The sands of the hourglass have almost run out. Now, more than ever, we need to reach the lost with the Gospel of Jesus Christ before it's too late.
