Hollywood Joins The Chorus

A few weeks back I presented a study on the phenomenon known as Synchronicity. We not only examined what it is, but we also formed some theories about how it might play a role in the coming Great Deception. A quick review of that piece may be somewhat beneficial before reading this column today. We also need to set the stage by asking some key questions.

Why does God allow atheists? Why does He allow the immoral? Why does God allow false teachers and teachings? Why are there heresies and cults? Why are there charlatans and frauds in the Church?

The biblical reply to those questions is that God allows false ministry for several reasons.

First, He allows it to test the hearts of His people as we have already established in Deuteronomy 13. Such divine tests demonstrate whether God's people will follow Him or chase after some miracle worker who draws them away from His commandments and will.

Second, God allows the false to appear because the contrast between the true and the false provides an opportunity to discern the differences clearly, and to highlight what is true: "There must needs be heresies among you, that those which are approved might be made manifest" (1 Corinthians 11:19).

Third, God allows the false to arise as a source of delusion and deception for those who are dishonest: "Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done" (Romans1:28).

Fourth, God uses the false to bring judgment on the disobedient. Jeremiah tells us that in his day false prophets had multiplied among God's people, causing them to err and leading them into immorality. However, they became a tool in God's hand for judging the wickedness of His people, because they falsely predicted peace when in fact God was planning to overthrow the nation (Jeremiah 23:9-40).

Finally, God allows the false to appear among His people so that He can separate those who are committed to His purposes from those who are merely curious about what is taking place. You can be sure that when the religious leaders of Jesus' day rose against Him, speaking falsely and causing controversy, many who had followed Him up to that point simply to see the miracles consequently fell away instead of pressing in to know for certain what was true.

In a similar way, I believe that the controversy now swirling around prophetic ministry will sharply increase in the days to come, because God never makes it easy to come into present truth. As with Gideon's army, the group of 22,000 who are faint-hearted and easily discouraged over imbalance, extremes and error will have ample opportunity to "go home" and give up on the whole movement because of the problems of a few.

DOES HOLLYWOOD HEAR HIS VOICE?

"Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken." Luke 21:26

God created each and every one of us so it's safe to say that He left His fingerprint on each unique individual, and also wrote His law upon our hearts and consciences. So, being in the end times it would make sense how the un-saved, non-Christians of the world also sense some kind of foreboding or impending doom.

I find it amazing that the global consciousness (or sub-consciousness) seems to be preparing for some kind of cataclysmic event or series of events in the very near future much like those of us who are students of prophecy are. For evidence, we simply need to look to Hollywood in the form of television and film.

No, I do not believe that this is all mere coincidence given where we are on God's prophetic timeline today. In fact, I think it's just more proof that He exists and that what He says will happen is true especially when you consider that perhaps the Lord can and does use "false prophets" and "false christs" to some extent to get the attention of those who are unsaved.

For proof that Hollywood is joining the chorus and signaling a warning (whether consciously or unconsciously) please take a look at a series of films coming to a theater near you soon:

2012
Roland Emmerich is working on a new movie titled 2012, based on a Mayan belief that the world will end in 2012. The movie 2012 has an ensemble cast, including John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Danny Glover, Thandie Newton, Oliver Platt, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Woody Harrelson. It should be released in July 2009. Director Roland Emmerich tells more about his source of inpiration for the movie 2012: “This whole movie I’m doing next was inspired by just the phenomenon of the Internet when you type in Google, ‘2012′, you get 240 million hits! That’s a lot! And it’s just, so many people write about it, believe it, that our world comes to an end in 2012. I said wow. I kind of said before I will never do a disaster movie again. I said, for this idea I have to do it again.”

The Day The Earth Stood Still
The Day the Earth Stood Still is 20th Century Fox's contemporary reinvention of its 1951 classic. Keanu Reeves portrays Klaatu, an alien whose arrival on our planet triggers a global upheaval. As governments and scientists race to unravel the mystery behind the visitor's appearance, a woman (Jennifer Connelly) and her young stepson get caught up in his mission – and come to understand the ramifications of his being a self-described "friend to the Earth."

Terminator 4: Salvation

In the highly anticipated new installment of "The Terminator" film franchise, set in post-apocalyptic 2018, Christian Bale stars as John Connor, the man fated to lead the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators. But the future Connor was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future, or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet's operations, where they uncover the terrible secret behind the possible annihilation of mankind.

Knowing
A teacher (Nicolas Cage) opens a time capsule that has been dug up at his son's elementary school; in it are some chilling predictions - some that have already occurred and others that are about to - that lead him to believe his family plays a role in the events that are due to unfold.

The International

What could be more timely than a drama about the international banking system? Clearly, the producers didn’t appreciate the serendipity because it was delayed while additional, more action-packed, scenes were added. Will the world be tired of hearing about bankers by February 2009? Naomi Watts and the thinking woman’s action man Clive Owen rather hope not.

Transformers 2: Revenge Of The Fallen
The battle for Earth has ended but the battle for the universe has just begun. After returning to Cybertron, Starscream assumes command of the Decepticons, and has decided to return to Earth with force. The Autobots believing that peace was possible finds out that Megatron's dead body has been stolen from the US Military by Skorpinox and revives him using his own spark. Now Megatron is back seeking revenge and with Starscream and more Decepticon reinforcements on the way, the Autobots with reinforcements of their own, may have more to deal with then meets the eye.

Avatar
James Cameron’s long-awaited high-technology blockbuster shares some basic ideas with The Surrogates (Humans use humanoid remote drones, in this case to explore an alien planet) and some with Planet 51 (we are the invaders). In terms of technological ambition and cinematic reach though, this movie should be without equal. Sigourney Weaver, who combined so well for Cameron in the past reunites with her Aliens director As long as Cameron doesn’t allow the story to become too cerebral for mainstream audiences Avatar stands a fair chance of being the biggest movie of the year.

Planet 51
The inhabitants of Planet 51 live in fear of alien invasion. Their paranoia is realized when an astronaut arrives from Earth. Befriended by a young resident, he has to avoid capture in order to recover his spaceship and try to return home. (NOTE: Interesting that James Cameron's new film Avatar also has a key location called Planet 51 nd that these two works are in no way related!)

The Box

Set, apparently, in the Seventies, The Box is the story of a young married couple who are given a mysterious box that has uncanny, deadly powers. Somehow connecting time travel, the 1976 Viking Mars Lander, teleportation and kipper ties. With former X-Man James Marsden, the always watchable Cameron Diaz and the sinister presence of Frank Langella it’s an intriguing prospect indeed.

Escape To Witch Mountain
Escape to Witch Mountain is a science fiction novel written by Alexander Key in 1968. It was adapted into a film of the same name by Walt Disney Productions in 1975, directed by John Hough. A remake directed by Peter Rader was released in 1995. Another remake began pre-production in July 2007, set to be directed by Andy Fickman. The movie began filming in March 2008 and is set to release March 13, 2009.The novel written by Alexander H. Key is about two orphans, Tony and Tia, who have moderate paranormal abilities. Tony possesses the ability of telekinesis, though he can access it most readily through playing music, where as Tia can unlock any door by touch as well as communicate with animals. Whilst Tony can talk normally, Tia communicates via ultrasonic speech audible only to her brother Tony (and others of their kind). After their foster guardian, Mrs. Malone, dies, they are placed by social services in a juvenile detention home under grim, unwholesome conditions where Tia befriends a black cat, Winkie. Both have suppressed memories of their past, but discover a clue — an old road map hidden in Tia's "star box", a leather purse-like box with a double-star design on it. When a man claiming to be the brother of their deceased father shows up at the detention center to take custody of them, they instinctively know he is not their uncle and has ulterior motives. With the assistance of an inner-city Irish priest, Father O'Day, the pair run away, following the map's route leading towards the Blue Ridge Mountains. As their memories begin to return, they realize that they are actually of extraterrestrial origin; their people having come to Earth because their own planet was dying. In the end, Tony and Tia find their way to their own people. When their would-be captor, Lucas Deranian, attempts to interrogate Father O'Day, the priest speaks to the effect that God is capable of creating many worlds and many peoples; that there are mysteries beyond Deranian's "narrow dreaming."

Afterwards
Nathan, a brilliant New York lawyer who leads a life of professional success, but his private life is pretty dismal since he divorced Claire, his only love. Until he meets Doctor Kay, a mysterious doctor who introduces himself as a "Messenger." He claims that he can sense when certain people are about to die, and that he is sent to help them put their life in order before it's too late. Nathan doesn't believe a word of this, but soon afterwards he witnesses some disconcerting scenes which seem to confirm the doctor's claims.

Angels And Demons
Teaser trailer for the prequel to The Davinci Code.

Outlander
During the reign of the Vikings, Kainan (Caviezel), a man from a far-off world, crash lands on Earth, bringing with him an alien predator known as the Moorwen. Though both man and monster are seeking revenge for violence committed against them, Kainan leads the alliance to kill the Moorwen by fusing his advanced technology with the Viking's Iron Age weaponry. The story evokes many similarities to the myths involving an alien race from the Sirius Star interacting with the ancient Egyptian tribe known as the Dogons.

Doomsday (2008)

The common thread tying each and every one of these films together is the fact that its creators all envision a future ruled by chaos, death, and destruction on a global level. There's also some interesting wordplay at work here in both the titles, names of characters and places depicted in the movies, and in the descriptions offered as well. Sure, these aren't the first films of their kind so why should this even raise any eyebrows?

What could make this situation unique is when you consider the eerie phenomenon of Synchronicity and consider that it takes years to make a feature length film, and so the fact that they are all coming out at relatively the same time (when these sorts of topics are now on our minds as very real scenarios) is fascinating since they weren't (at least not to the extent they are today) just a few short years ago.

As we've no doubt been able to see, world news headlines are shouting to us each and every day that our time is short.

Again, I find it amazing that the global consciousness (or sub-consciousness) seems to be preparing for some kind of cataclysmic event or series of events in the very near future much like those of us who are students of prophecy are.
