Vicki Caruana said it best when she wrote that this is, "A 'no apologies' and 'in-your-face' Christian response to the in-your-face affront of the secular media in the lives of our children."
"Sex, Lies, And The Media: What Your Kids Know And Aren't Telling You" by mother and daughter team Eva Marie Everson and Jessica Everson give us more than just your run-of-the-mill attack on the media, which often includes a scathing attack on TV and Hollywood. Where they succeed is by placing the focus squarely on the individual.

Don't get me wrong, they paint a vivid picture - - using a ton of research and statistical facts to make their case - - that clearly shows a society that is more than willing to try and create a culture of sexualized automatons. Their goal is to show us just how badly things have become, and then they give us the tools we need to reverse the trends - - God and a first-hand perspective for both parents and their children.
More importantly, they don't shy away from the fact that the real responsibility lies with the individual. For instance, they provide the reader with tips that can help parents be parents, and tips that can help young adults make the right decisions.
Parents will find this book an essential resource in helping their children develop healthy, godly attitudes toward sexuality in an age when sex is a marketing tool for everything from clothing to toothpaste.
Gleaning from interviews with various youth culture authorities, movie reviewers, youth pastors from across the nation, and teens themselves, the authors have created an informative book to educate and help parents as they guide their children through today's maze of sexual confusion.
The book is peppered with statistics, teen language and context, and facts about the media's promotion of sexual freedom that destroys the sanctity that makes marital sex a special gift from God.
What's also great about their approach is that they never suggest putting your kids in a protective bubble to shelter them from the world. Quite the contrary! In fact, they simply want to educate parents and their children about the reality of life, and equip them with the ability to not only recognize the lies, but to overcome the temptations that will bombard them daily.
Once again, I highly recommend this book to anyone who is concerned about protecting their children from the clutches of sin.
