Conficker C: April Fool's Day Joke?

A computer science detective story is playing out on the Internet as security experts try to hunt down a worm called "Conficker C" and prevent it from damaging millions of computers on April Fool's Day or next Wednesday, April 1, 2009 (less than 1 week from now).

Here's what we know:

> The worm lets a master computer take over infected "zombie" PCs
> It's unclear what the program's author plans to do with all the power
> A group called the "Conficker Cabal" is trying to hunt down solutions

This piece of computer code tells the worm to activate on April 1, 2009:


The malicious program already is thought to have infected between 5 million and 10 million computers. Those infections haven't spawned many symptoms, but on April 1st a master computer is scheduled to gain control of these "zombie" machines, said Don DeBolt, Director of Threat Research for CA, a New York-based IT and software company.

What happens on April Fool's Day is anyone's guess. The program could delete all of the files on a person's computer, use zombie PCs - - those controlled by a master - - to overwhelm and shut down specific websites or monitor a person's keyboard strokes to collect private information like passwords or bank account information, experts said. More likely, though, said DeBolt, the virus may try to get computer users to buy fake software or spend money on other phony products.

The program's code is also written to evolve over time and its author appears to be making updates to thwart some of the Conficker Cabal's attempts to neuter the worm. It's unclear who wrote the program, but members of the Cabal are looking for clues. First, they know that some recent malware programs have come from Eastern European countries outside the jurisdiction of the European Union, said Patrick Morganelli, Senior Vice President of Technology for Enigma Software.

So, just in case this is the real deal or part of some kind of international cyber-warfare in the form of a massive cyber-attack I'm going to post like crazy over the next few days in the event that this is not a hoax and my computer is infected and it goes down.

Does anyone suspect that this could be "part of the master plan" and that if something major does happen, crippling computer systems everywhere, that it could be blamed on someone or something else while still serving its primary purpose - - to help bring about the New World Order?

Wait, silly me! Sorry about that. There I go getting all nutty again. What was I thinking? I mean, it's not like something like that could ever happen, right? Right? Well, actually...

There have been plans discussed publicly for years by the leaders of the world (and a group called the Internet2 Consortium) to do away with the Internet as it exists today and replace it with the "Internet2" as it has been called. In fact, from the "About Us" page of the Internet2 Consortium's website we can read the following:

"Internet2 is a not-for-profit advanced networking consortium comprising of more than 200 U.S. universities in cooperation with 70 leading corporations, 45 government agencies, laboratories and other institutions of higher learning as well as over 50 international partner organizations. Our organization is governed by an executive Board of Trustees and strategic councils consisting of leaders who represent our broad membership."

According to Ian Bird, Project Leader for CERN’s high-speed computing project (CERN? Now where have we read about that before?), grid technology could make the Internet so fast that people would stop using desktop computers to store information and entrust it all to the Internet. Users would use the new "Cloud Computing" as a common way to organize personal and private information that would be stored on the Grid and accessible from any where.

I don't want the CERN connection to be lost on us because it's been suggested that the Internet2 will have speeds 10,000 times faster than a regular broadband connection. In addition, I've read that researchers are set to activate this new network by this Summer 2009 so they can use it to collect information from the CERN supercollider that they hope will recreate the "Big Bang" and the conditions that led to the creation of the universe. Food for thought.

In any event, if the establishment is successful in convincing the people of the world to put all of their personal and private information on this network, this will be the equivalent of Big Brother on steroids. The establishment is not going to make the same mistake with Internet2 as they did with the original Internet. The Internet has provided people more freedom than they had ever could have imagined and they certainly can't have anymore of that.

The people behind Internet2 are large universities, government agencies and multinational corporations. Now, would it be in their best interest to allow Internet2 to have the same freedoms and free flow of information that the Internet currently has? Absolutely not. It wouldn't fit with the Antichrist's plans for a one-world everything either now would it?

So, we're left wondering if April 1st, 2009 will be a sort of technological doomsday. Worst case scenario? Well, I think the most recent "Diehard" film gives us a pretty good idea of what we could expect if that were to happen:



Should a technological armageddon occur next week affecting the very systems people rely on for their day-to-day needs worldwide have no fear. Why? Because just one single day later on April 2nd at The London Summit we'll have all the world leaders gathered together in London to address the global financial crisis.

Perhaps they can add one more issue to their agenda - - fixing what would then be the "current technological crisis" - - and perhaps we'll see one man rise to the occasion with an answer to all the world's problems. Hmmm, seems like Conficker C could be tailor made for the Antichrist's rise to power.

Overall, Internet2 or “the grid” is definitely something to watch out for. By moving to a new network, the establishment can claim that they are not censoring the Internet by getting people to move to the Internet2 system voluntarily. If the establishment has its way, it is very likely that Internet2 will be heavily policed and censored. We must not allow this to happen.

Lastly, what if there is some truth to this and it does eclipse Y2K fears not only in the sense that it actually happens, but that it affects computer systems worldwide? What if the unthinkable happens and then it's "revealed" that this worm (in some kind of a "warm-up" or "dress rehearsal" phase) was the cause of systems/instrumentation error that has caused all these collisions and tragic plane crashes in recent months?

Pure speculation, but plausible?
