Tightening Their Grip

This story out of Russia reported by Not Another CONspiracy should be watched closely: Russia: Blogger Arrested For Pneumonic Plague Rumors.

There were rumors that the same type of thing happened to a Ukranian blogger when the 'Black Lung Plague' epidemic first erupted there a few weeks back, but this one has much more verifiable evidence to suggest it's legit.

I think we should keep our eyes open for more stories like this because it never occurred to me to think how easy it would be for the governments of the world to do the same thing to limit the free flow of information from people like us as we attempt to stop any sinister plots that they try to carry out against their citizens.

I mean, just think about how powerful a tool it is in the hands of The-Powers-That-Be if they can say that the authorities arrested a blogger because the government deemed him/her to be guilty of 'psychological terrorism' for 'promoting false rumors' about whatever. The possibilities are virtually endless! It doesn't have to be just about any perceived 'health crisis', but whatever the fear du jour happens to be.

I think the protests in Iran over the summer provided those who stand against truth (and therefore against us) with an adequate case study in what can happen to their plans if the people are allowed free and unrestricted access to things like blogs, Twitter, and YouTube during the implementation phase.

Food for thought.

JRed, I was thinking along similar lines when I saw yet another story (yesterday) about the Chinese shutting down sites within China and shutting the citizens off from free world one website at a time.
