What We're Praying/Talking About

Our faith in action, or our small contribution in trying to apply what we're taught in Hebrews 5-6 and James 2:17-26 for the benefit of our dear brothers and sisters within the Body of Christ...

Talk About Jesus - Notable Quotable

I'm currently working my way through a series of Christian books on the family.

Partly because I want to be the best husband and father I can be for my family (by living out my faith in the way that God expects me to), and partly because I need to start finishing some of these books that clutter my bookshelf (you should see the pile!).

In one of the books I'm reading (Family Driven Faith by Voddie Baucham Jr., or is it Hopeful Parenting by David Jeremiah?), there's a chapter on how the Lord will most certainly use your family and home life as a witnessing tool to the rest of the world.

In that section, the author cites Bishop Woodie White who is referenced for something he once shared, and it reminded me of something I sometimes forget (and need to remember)...

In the fall of 1953 I met a young woman at a soda fountain. At the time I was having severe difficulty with organized religion. She was an articulate and dedicated Christian. She knew how to talk about her faith. The more I railed against the church, the more she talked about Jesus. The more I talked about hypocrites in the church, the more she talked about Jesus. The more I pointed out the failure of the church, the more she talked about Jesus. She won. Praise God!

Maybe we are using our evangelistic witness to talk about the wrong things. Perhaps we are giving answers to questions no one is asking.

It may well be that people are looking for bread and we are giving a stone. The Good News is: Jesus is Lord! Whatever else may follow, and there is much, this is where the Story begins.

Are we talking about the wrong things?

Talk about Jesus Christ crucified whenever you can.

Bravo... great post! I think people are starting to want what is of Jesus, especially the love and mercy. Times are getting hard and people are looking for a savior... perfect time to talk about our King that put forth the example of a king being a servant! Such a crazy concept to the world but provides comfort to those who are searching. Who wants a King that would give his life for us? I would!!! And consider myself unworthy of his love and sacrifice given on the cross. The least I can do is let him into my life, read his book, and make a humble messed up attempt to love like him. I've noticed walls of other people come down when just genuinely try to love like Jesus. That's how we can bring people to him. That is how my family is able to bring friends, co-workers, relatives, and others we know searching to Christ. Then the cool part happens... that never gets old! Blessings!!
