What We're Praying/Talking About

Our faith in action, or our small contribution in trying to apply what we're taught in Hebrews 5-6 and James 2:17-26 for the benefit of our dear brothers and sisters within the Body of Christ...

Egypt, Muslim Brotherhood, And Bible Prophecy

After all the time we spent on last week's LUFM Christian News Cache during the start of the show (around the 28-minute mark) discussing current events in Egypt, today's news was to be expected.

Once again, God's Word is being fulfilled before our very eyes.

Morsi Wins Egypt's Presidential Election

Muslim Brotherhood candidate declared the official winner with 13.2 million votes.

The Muslim Brotherhood's Mohammed Morsi has officially won Egypt's presidential election and will be the country's next president, the electoral commission has announced.

Morsi picked up 13.2 million votes out of just over 26 million, giving him about 51 per cent of the vote. His competitor, Ahmed Shafiq, the final prime minister under Hosni Mubarak, received 12.3 million.

More than 800,000 ballots were invalidated. Farouq Sultan, the head of the election commission, delivered a long speech before announcing the results in which he defended the body's "independence and integrity" amidst what he called meddling by unnamed political factions.

The final results...

Turnout: 26,420,763 (51 per cent)

Invalidated votes: 843,252

Morsi: 13,230,131 votes (51.7 per cent of valid votes)

Shafiq: 12,347,380 votes

The two candidates filed 456 complaints about the electoral process, Sultan said, most of them allegations of either forgery or Christian voters being blocked from polling stations in Upper Egypt.

The vast majority of those complaints were dismissed. Tahrir Square erupted into celebration after Morsi's victory was announced. Tens of thousands of his supporters waved Egyptian flags and chanted "God is great" and "down with military rule."

Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, Egypt's military ruler, congratulated Morsi on his victory, state television reported. Reactions also trickled in from around the region: The governments of Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and the Palestinian Authority congratulated the winner.

Binyamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, said in a statement that he "respects the outcome" of the election, and "expects to continue cooperation with the Egyptian administration."

Folks, things are about to get worse in both Egypt and the rest of the Middle East. Not only did jubilant supporters chant "Allahu Akbar!", but speculation is running wild right now since Morsi has pledged to make Jerusalem the new capital of the Islamic world. Did you know that? In fact, he's promised an "Egyptian renaissance with an Islamic foundation" to be specific.

I shouldn't have to detail all the reasons why this turn of events today is certainly prophetically relevant, but just in case there are a few remaining skeptics out there, then I should tell you how Morsi has also cited his religious fear of Judgement Day (the Islamic version) as one of his reasons for running.

He even repeatedly promised to implement Islamic Law in speeches peppered with references to Allah, the Prophet Mohammad, and the Koran.

Still, the single greatest tell-tale indication of what this means for the rest of the world, and in regards to the fulfillment of end times Bible prophecy, can be found in the fact that he regularly called for a Muslim super-state across the Middle East with Jerusalem as its capital -- a direct challenge to Israel with whom Mubarak maintained a 33-year-old peace treaty.

His words, "Jerusalem is in our hearts and vision..." seems a sober reminder of where we are on God's prophetic timeline right now.

My dear friends, please listen to a mere 30 minute segment of last Tuesday's LUFM Christian News Cache (beginning around the 28-minute mark) for analysis of what's going on in the Middle East right now, for what God's Word has to say about Egypt's prophetic destiny, and about Russia's likely role (including Putin's visit to Israel tomorrow).

The prophetic puzzle pieces are all coming together.

Luke 21:28 reminds us to keep looking up!
