What We're Praying/Talking About

Our faith in action, or our small contribution in trying to apply what we're taught in Hebrews 5-6 and James 2:17-26 for the benefit of our dear brothers and sisters within the Body of Christ...

9th Day Of AV: 1 In 863 Million Times A Billion!

Today marks what is known as the '9th Day of Av', or 'Tisha Be-Av', which is a day of fasting, or a day of mourning and remembrance of Israel's loss of their sacred Temple.

It is one of the most historically significant anniversaries in the life of their nation and it is commemorated by Jews throughout the world as the tragic day when God withdrew His Presence, and Israel wept as their precious Temple burned to the ground.

Zechariah 7:5 (ESV) ...when you fasted and mourned in the fifth month and in the seventh...

Throughout Israel's history, the 9th of Av, has witnessed 8 of the greatest disasters in their nation's history, which simply defies limited human logic.

1. The 12 spies return with their report -- Israel loses faith and is condemned to die in the wilderness.

2. The destruction of Solomon's Temple by the Babylonians in 587 B.C.

3. The destruction of the Second Temple by the Romans in A.D. 70

4. The Roman army plowed Jerusalem with salt in A.D. 71

5.
The destruction of Simeon Bar Kochba's army in A.D. 135

6. England expelled all of the Jews in 1290

7.
Spain expelled all the Jews in 1492

8.
World War I is declared on the 9th of Av, 1914; Russia mobilized for WWI and launched persecutions against the Jews in Eastern Russia

Needless to say, it has become a day when Jews not only mourn their loss, but also look forward to that great day when their Messiah will finally appear to end their centuries of suffering.

This phenomenon of eight major events of the same nature, namely the greatest national disasters in the history of the Jews, all occurring on the very same anniversary date is unprecedented in the history of nations.

Tisha Be Av, Israel's Fast of Mourning on the 9th Day of Av, has seen more national disasters than any other date in history. The prophet Zechariah refers to this day, "when ye fasted and mourned in the fifth [Av] and seventh month" (Zechariah 7:5). He goes on to state that when the Messiah and the long-promised Kingdom comes, all of their fasts, including this one, "shall be to the house of Judah joy and gladness, and cheerful feasts" (Zechariah 8:19).

As mentioned earlier, the phenomenon of 8 major historical disasters affecting one nation over 35 centuries happening on the same anniversary day is totally unprecedented in human history.

As a student of history for the last 20 years, I can assure you that no other nation has experienced any such pattern of historical anniversaries or 'coincidences.' In fact, if any of my readers are mathematically inclined, I would suggest that they check the probability that these 8 historical tragedies could have occurred by chance rather than by God's foreknowledge and sovereignty.

Because there are 365 days in a year, the chance that even a second significant historical tragedy could occur by chance alone on the anniversary date of a previous tragedy on a given day, say, the 9th Day of Av, is one chance in 365. The odds against a third similar event occurring on the exact same day, the 9th Day of Av, is 1 x 365 x 365 = 133,225.

In other words, the odds against even three of these national disasters occurring by chance alone on a particular anniversary day, such as the 9th Day of Av, is only 1 chance in 133,225.

This is why the historical records of the nations throughout human history do not reveal any other nation, except for Israel, that has sustained repeated victories or defeats on particular anniversary dates of the calendar.

The odds that all 8 disastrous events for Israel would occur by chance alone on the 9th Day of Av, rather than by God's design, can be calculated as follows: 1 x 365 x 365 x 365 x 365 x 365 x 365 x 365 x 365 = 1 chance in 863,078,009,300,000,000 or 1 chance in 863 million times a billion!

It is important to remember that the above probability analysis only considers eight of Israel's anniversary events, only those which occurred on the ninth day of the Biblical month of Av.

In all, there are more than 40 major anniversary events which have occurred throughout Israel's history that we are examining in this book. If we were to add these additional dates to our probability figures, the numbers would be so astronomically high that no rational person could conclude that these events have happened on their respective dates by chance alone.

The consideration of these facts will lead many to believe, along with this author, that the only rational explanation for this phenomenon is that God has had His hand upon the Jews and Israel.

Furthermore, this evidence provides strong proof that the Bible, which reveals these staggering , historically verified events, is truly the inspired Word of God.
